Maharajganj:Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was on Monday all praise for Mohammad Kaif who along with Indian vice-captain Rahul Dravid led the country to a five-wicket win over Pakistan in the fourth One-day International in Lahore on Sunday.

"The Indian cricket team had met me before leaving for the tour and sought my blessings. In sports, there can be wins and defeats. But I thought what blessing should I give when I can't even hold a cricket bat.

"I told them go to Pakistan and win there. Win the matches and the hearts too," he said addressing an election rally. Lauding the all-round performance of Kaif who belongs to Uttar Pradesh (UP), he said earlier cricketers from UP were not being selected in the national side.

"If a person from UP can become the Prime Minister, why can't a cricketer be included in the national team," he said specially praising Kaif's catching abilities.

Vajpayee congratulated the team for its victory in the fourth One-day International in Lahore on Sunday.
