Laxman found his silken touch when it mattered most as the Indian top order once again failed to bat to its potential in the day-night encounter at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Although the Indians, put in to bat, scored at a steady rate, they were reined in by a disciplined attack with the home bowlers making amends somewhat for their erratic display in the earlier four matches of the series.
Besides Laxman, whose 107-run knock came off just 104 balls with 11 fours, it was skipper Sourav Ganguly who managed to make a substantial contribution with a 45-run knock.
The tailenders again chipped in with some useful runs -Irfan Pathan making 20 off 12 and L Balaji 10 off six before a jam-packed Stadium. The last four overs yielded 40 runs but India still failed to touch the magic 300-run mark.
Mohd Sami was the pick of the bowlers, who conceded 16 extras in all, grabbing three wickets for 64. Shabbir Ahmed picked two while spearhead Shoaib Akhtar returned 1 for 47 in the most economical spell.
