Colombo:Sri Lanka's cricket governing body decided to send controversial off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan to Australia for expert assessment after he was reported for a suspect bowling action.

"He will be filmed by the University of Western Australia before professor Bruce Elliot and Daryl Foster," Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement. "Professor Elliot is also a member of the ICC Human Movement Panel," the statement said.

Muralitharan was reported by match-referee Chris Broad after the third and final Test against Australia in Colombo on Sunday.

In contention is Muralitharan's new delivery, which spins away from the right-handers.

Muralitharan finished the three-Test series against Australia with 28 wickets to take his tally to 513, needing seven more to break retired West Indies paceman Courtney Walsh's world record of 519.
