Mumbai:Kapil Dev today released former South African skipper and chief of the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA), Dr Ali Bacher's biography 'Ali -- The Life of Ali Bacher' in a glittering function at Mumbai.

Kapil said that he felt it is a honour to release a book on one of the most respected name in world cricket.

"Dr Bacher is one of the most respected names in world cricket and was the man behind the immensely successful cricket World Cup hosted in South Africa last year," he added.Dr Bacher became a full-time cricket administrator just when the game of cricket was turning commercial and required professional administrators.

In 1986, he was appointed the first managing director of the South African Cricket Union. He was the managing director of UCBSA from 1991 to 2000. It was under his leadership that South Africa made its triumphant re-entry into international cricket.

The book written by Rodney Hartman, who has worked as a journalist in South Africa and London for thirty years, was prefaced by former South African president Nelson Mandela.

The 450-page book is published by Penguin Books (South Africa) and is distributed in India by Penguin Books India at a special prize of Rs 495.

Many cricketers including Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, ex-Aussie captain Steve Waugh and England opener Geoff Boycott have appreciated the book.

Praising Bacher's contribution, former BCCI chief Rajsingh Dungarpur said the cricketer-turned-administrator is one of the finest human beings he has come across.

"I hope that one fine day he will lead the International Cricket Council, because he is a person who deserves that post", Dungarpur added.
