Women's team to play tri-series in Sri Lanka

Bangalore:The Indian women's cricket team will be touring Sri Lanka to play in a triangular series from April 17 to 24, 2004. Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India will participate in the tournament.

The Indian team that won against World Champions New Zealand in Nov 2003 and against West Indies in March 2004 are the favourites to win this tournament, with players like Mithali Raj and Jaya Sharma, who has got the top aggregates in the World for the year 2003, and Neetu David, who is considered the best spinner in the world.

This is the first time this tournament is taking place in the subcontinent and it will be a yearly affair hereafter.

Pakistan and India will play each other for the first time and all eyes will be on Kiran Baluch of Pakistan, the player who broke Mithali Raj's World record by scoring 242 runs in a Test inning recently.

The Indian team is undergoing a preparatory camp at Bangalore, sponsored by Jain International Residential School.
