Lahore:India were staring at defeat in the second cricket Test against Pakistan here today after yet another inept batting display by its top order with the exception of Virender Sehwag who was unbeaten on a defiant 86.

After conceding a first innings lead of 202 runs, India were 149 for five at stumps on day three in the second Test match against Pakistan at Gaddafi stadium in Lahore on Wednesday.

Virender Sehwag was batting on 86, while Parthiv Patel gave him good support with 13.

With two full days to spare India needs 53 runs more to avoid follow-on.

Indians were in for a rude shock as they started their second innings. The top five wickets were lost for 105. Reputations crumbled as Indian top order except Sehwag returned to the Pavilion in a que. Only rain, of which there is little prospect, or another massive innings by dashing Sehwag can come in the way of Pakistan squaring the series.
