Chennai : Legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev on Sunday expressed hope that the Indian new ball bowling pair of Laxmipathy Balaji and Irfan Pathan would maintain their fitness levels to help the country garner more laurels in world cricket.
Kapil Dev, considered the 'devil' for his prowess in swing bowling and known for injury-free career during his playing days, expressed his happiness over Sourav Ganguly-led Indian team's historic series win in both the Test and One-day internationals in Pakistan.
"I am impressed with the whole team's performance and more so the way both Balaji and Pathan shone well with the ball, taking vital wickets which helped the team's positive approach," he said.
Winner of the Wisden Cricketer award of the last millennium, in Madras to launch the "BSA Cycle Run 2004", in particular spoke at length on the necessities related to fitness amongst sportspersons.
Kapil Dev, the only Asian in the Board of Laureus World Sports Award, an organisation for sports on the same lines of Oscar awards for films, said he would wait for the day when all sportspersons in the country were given the due attention by people concerned.
Besides Kapil Dev, Olympian and mercurial Indian hockey forward Dhanraj Pillai, film actress Laila, television stars Ruby Bhatia and Aman Verma along with over 1500 people took part in the 24-km "To pedal for a clean and healthy Chennai" run.
