Kolkata:Indian cricket skipper Sourav Ganguly had a surprise visitor when West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya came calling at his residence to congratulate him for leading India to victory in both theTest and One-day series in Pakistan.

Taking time off from electioneering, Bhattacharya went to Ganguly's residence at Behala from the secretariat and spent a long time chatting with the cricketer as also his other family members.

''Of course the victory of the team is the most important. But your stellar role in moulding the side into such a well-knit fighting unit has to be acknowledged,''Bhattacharya told Ganguly.

''Its basically a team effort. I'm proud to lead such a team. I am confident that we will be able to continue our good show in the coming days,'' Ganguly replied.

Bhattacharya, an avid cricket fan, had earlier effusively praised Ganguly and his other team members after the victory in the series deciding Rawalpindi Test.

The State Governor, Viren J Shah, had also visited Ganguly's residence for an informal get-together.

They had a tete-a-tete on various aspects of Team India's sterling performance in Pakistan.

Shah congratulated Ganguly for the spectacular success of the side, while the latter highly praised the hospitality the team got in Pakistan.

The others present at the get-together were filmmaker Mrinal Sen and singers Ruma Guha Thakurta and Nirmala Misra.
