Islamabad :A five-member medical panel on Sunday began its inquiry into the spate of injuries to key Pakistan players in the recent cricket series against India.

Fast bowlers Shabbir Ahmed, Mohammad Sami and Umar Gul, wicketkeeper Moin Khan and all-rounder Abdul Razzaq were all scheduled to appear before the commission on Sunday.

Ironically Shoaib Akhtar, the star bowler, whose injury at a crucial time in the series decider at Rawalpindi prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to form the inquiry panel, would not appear for the hearing on Sunday.

Shoaib, in Mumbai for the past one week to shoot a commercial, is scheduled to return on Sunday from India and has informed the Board that he would be available for the hearing only on Tuesday. The panel will look into the injuries sustained by the players and decide whether those were genuine or not.
