Bangalore:All-rounder Nauman Irfan (89&4 for 34) was the star performer in Jawans Cricket Clubs 80 run victory over Gandhinagar C C in the State level Y S R cricket tournament at the Rail Wheel Factory turf in Bangalore. Jawans now meet Swastik Union C C in the quarters.

Electing to bat on the turf, Jawans were in deep trouble at 30 for three when Kafeel Ahmed joined Nauman. They played cautiously, but positively to put on 124 runs before Kafeel was out caught and bowled by leg-spinner Rajesh for a well compiled 68 with the help of 13 hits to the fence.

Nauman continued in the company of Mrunmay Das adding another 51 to the Jawans score. Nauman was out leg before while trying to sweep off spinner Rajeev for 89 that came of 107 balls and was studded with 14 boundaries.

The rest contributed just small scores and Jawans were all out for 275 from 45.1 overs. Medium Pacer Naveen with figures of four for 35, Kishan (2 for 50) and Rajesh with 2 for 46 were the pick of Gandhinagar bowlers.

In reply, eventhough Dilip Sagar struck for Jawans in the very first over, they had to wait for another 17 overs and 101 runs for the second wicket as Kishan (56, 10 fours)&Srinidhi (40, 7 fours) batted sensibly. Left-arm spinner Mrunmay Das broke this partnership to bring some relief.

Gandhinagar recovered again and were cruising along at 175 for four of just 26 overs when Nauman Irfan came back and picked up four valuable wickets to turn the game in Jawans favour. Thanks to Nauman's effort Gandhinagar were dismissed for 193.
