"There is a possibility of Pakistan's visit coming about next year but nothing is confirmed yet," Board secretary S K Nair said.
"We have received the request but we have to work out lot of details. The decision would also depend on the Government's approval," he said.
Pakistan last visited India in 1999 for a two-Test series besides an Asian Championship Test.
The revival of cricketing relations between the two neighbours with India crossing the border for a full-fledged Test and One-day series last month has raised expectations of a return visit by Pakistan.
Nair also said the Board was hoping to put the graded payment system in place before the start of next season. "The discussion (with the players) is over and the final document is being prepared.
"But there are other issues like selecting the players to be contracted and grading them in three levels that is still to be sorted out.
"We are at the fag end of the process and hope to have the system in place before the start of the new season," he added.
