Kingstown:West Indies captain Brian Lara will miss the first two One-day Internationals of the three match series against Bangladesh on Saturday and Sunday.

Lara received a further knock to his damaged right little finger during the seventh and final ODI against England in Barbados last Wednesday.

"Bearing in mind the hectic schedule ahead for West Indies, Lara will sit out the first two matches as a precautionary measure," stated a West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) news release announcing the 13-member squad for the first two matches.

Ramnaresh Sarwan will captain the side in the absence of Lara.

The West Indies vice-captain had led the side in the first match of the recent rain-marred ODI series against England at Georgetown in similar circumstances.

Lara sustained the finger injury in March during the first Test against England at Kingston.

He played through the remainder of the Test series before missing the first ODI after aggravating the finger injury during his record-breaking quadruple hundred in the fourth Test against Michael Vaughan's side.

There is no place in the squad for Mervyn Dillon and Corey Collymore, West Indies' two most experienced ODI bowlers.

Lively fast bowlers Fidel Edwards, who has played only two ODIs, and Tino Best, who has no ODI caps, will form the pace attack, along with teenager Ravi Rampaul and left-arm medium-fast bowler Ian Bradshaw.

Opening batsman Devon Smith has been recalled to the side, since being sidelined with a dislocated finger following the recent second Test against England.

West Indies-squad:

Ramnaresh Sarwan (capt), Tino Best, Ian Bradshaw, Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards, Chris Gayle, Ridley Jacobs (wkt), Sylvester Joseph, Ricardo Powell, Ravi Rampaul, Devon Smith, Dwayne Smith.
