Islamabad:In a surprise move, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has nominated young fast bowler Mohammed Sami to represent the country at the official launch of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Champions Trophy at Lords on Monday, local media reports said in Islamabad.

The decision to nominate Sami for the ceremony instead of any senior player was termed as a "new trend" by local daily The News which said that even though many such players were also playing in the English County the Board preferred the 22-year-old paceman.

"Although senior players like Saqlain Mushtaq, Shoaib Akhtar and Azhar Mahmood are presently playing in England for different counties, the Board, it is learnt, has nominated Sami for the honour of representing Pakistan in the team's line-up and photo call," it said.

"Cricket Boards round the world nominate their captains or a senior player but the PCB, apparently, has decided to set a new trend.

"One would have thought that for such a prestigious event either the Board would have sent Inzamam-ul-Haq or nominated either Saqlain or Shoaib who are more senior than Sami and better equipped and versed in the English language," the daily added.
