Two fitness specific camps to be held in Bangalore

Bangalore:A nine-day coaching camp would be held in Bangalore from July 3 in preparation for the Asia Cup to be held in Sri Lanka, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary S K Nair said on Sunday.

He said after a meeting of the selection committee that the national team would be selected then. The camp would conclude on July 11 and the team would leave for the island nation on July 13.

Meanwhile, a fitness-specific conditioning camp for pace bowlers would be held in Bangalore from June 7 to 12.

Those selected for this camp are: Ashish Nehra, Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, L Balaji, Amit Bhandari, Munaf Patel, Avishkar Salvi, Srishanth, S S Paul, S Mathur, S Trivedi, N C Aiyappa, Gagandeep Singh, Jogender Sharma, Mohammed Faizal and T T Kumaran, Nair said.

Thereafter, from June 13 to June 19, a combined fitness camp would be held in which some of those who attended the earlier one would also feature.

Those attending this week-long camp are: Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Kaif, Parthiv Patel, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Murali Kartik, Ramesh Powar, Aakash Chopra, Hemang Badani, Sairaj Bahutule, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Agit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, L Balaji, Munaf Patel, Amit Bhandari, Rohan Gavaskar and Gautham Gambhir, he added.

Nair clarified that the two camps in June are fitness specific and not cricket coaching ones and they would be overseen by physical trainer Gregory King.
