Canterbury:Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has agreed to join Kent, the English County cricket club said.

The 24-year-old has agreed to join Kent as short-term cover for New Zealand's Ian Butler who is involved in the NatWest Series One-day triangular event.

Afridi will play three Twenty20 matches for the Spitfires, and will make his debut against the Middlesex Crusaders on Friday.

Kent chief executive Paul Millman was purring with delight after the Pakistan international agreed to join the Spitfires.

"This signing will give Kent supporters the mouth-watering prospect of pairing Shahid Afridi and (Australian batsman) Andrew Symonds," said Millman.
