Kolkata :Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, who turned 32 on Thursday, returned home to spend his birthday with his family, as sponsors, media and fans made it to his South Kolkata residence to wish him.

Ganguly, who flew into the metropolis at the conclusion of the conditioning camp in Chennai, was greeted by his parents, wife Dona and daughter Sana.

''Please spare me today. Let me spend the day differently today,'' Ganguly pleaded at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, where he was accosted and offered bouquets by some mediapersons.

However, he later relented and gave newsbytes to the scribes.

This is the second consecutive birthday that Ganguly will be celebrating in the midst of family members and friends after having to stay away from home for several years since his Test debut in 1996.

A large number of newspersons were camping outside his residence since early afternoon ever since news trickled out that the cricketer would be returning to the metropolis during the day.

Several corporate houses, whose brands are promoted by Ganguly, sent him flowers and cards.

A local television company has already created a hype over Ganguly's birthday by getting thousands of birthday cards from students of different schools. The cards are likely to be handed over to the Indian skipper in the evening.
