Nairobi:Suspended Kenyan cricketer Maurice Odumbe has been replaced in the national team for next month's ICC Champions Trophy, as his lawyers announced they would go ahead to file a petition challenging his five-year ban.

The Kenya Cricket Association (KCA) has picked Brijal Patel, an up and coming right-hand batsman to take Odumbe's place in the 14-man squad.

Patel, who will join his teammates in playing a four-day match against visiting India 'A' at the Ruaraka Sports Club on Thursday was a member of the Kenyan team that reached the semifinals of the 2003 World Cup.

Odumbe's lawyer Ishan Kapila said the KCA's decision to drop the player had taken them by surprise, but they would still go ahead with their appeal to have the suspension lifted.

Following investigations brought by the International Cricket Council's (ICC) anti-corruption and security unit, Odumbe was found guilty of taking bribes from an Indian bookmaker in 2002.
