CK Nayudu Under-19 cricket tourney in Kashmir

Srinagar:The prestigious C K Nayudu Under-19 cricket championship, being held in Kashmir for the second year in a row, will kick off on September 8, Jammu and Kashmir minister for sports Nissar Ali said on Monday.

As many as 22 teams from all over India are likely to participate in the championship which will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis at different cricket stadiums in the Valley, Ali said in Srinagar.

Ali said 16 teams have confirmed their participation while three teams have already arrived.

The championship will be declared open by state chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at Bakshi Stadium on September 8, he said.

The preliminary matches will be 30 overs a side affairs while the semi-finals and final will be a 40-over tie, he said.

About 300 players and officials are expected to take part in the event which marks the beginning of the 50th National School Games under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India.
