Patel injured his bowling shoulder when he fell down on his follow through in his eleventh over during Rest of India's innings on Wednesday.
Team physio Vipul Chavda said Patel's fracture was in the 'corocoid process' bone in the shoulder blade and the bowler needed an expert opinion before it could be said when he would return to action.
"We are sending him to Mumbai where a CT scan will be done to determine the displacement (of the bone). Only then it can be said what treatment he needs and how long will it take for him to recover. But he cannot play for a minimum of six to eight weeks," Chavda said.
Patel would be flown to Mumbai later on Thursday.
