Kolkata:With rival camps in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) elections trying their best to garner political support, the Communist Party of India(Marxist) on Tuesday threw its weight behind Maharashtra strongman, Sharad Pawar, saying apparently all political parties are getting involved in the high-profile election on Wednesday.

"Our sympathy is with Sharad Pawar," CPI(M) Politburo member Anil Biswas said when asked his party's stand in the matter.

Biswas, however, said his party disfavoured involvement of political personalities in sports bodies, which should be left to the sports professionals only.

"But we find that centering the BCCI president's elections, all political parties including the Congress and BJP are getting involved," he said adding that in such a situation "our sympathy is with Sharad Pawar".

Asked whether NCP supremo had sought CPI(M) support, he said, "Not here, I can't say whether he had sought our support in Delhi".

Political heavyweight and Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar, is expected to take on Ranbir Singh Mahedra, son of Bansilal and senior leader of Haryana Congress Party, who is backed by incumbent Jagmohan Dalmiya.
