Christened 'Sourav's -- The Food Pavilion', the restaurant is the city's first four-storied multiplex restaurant designed by renowned Mumbai-based architect Kapil Bhalla.
"It was a long time dream of mine to open a restaurant in my Kolkata where different types of cuisines catering to people with different tastes could be served," Ganguly said announcing the formal launch of the restaurant.
Ganguly said when four of his friends -- Manoj Jhajharia, Ajay Jindal, Sanjay Das and Kanishkar Majumdar -- approached him with the proposal, "I saw a ray of hope in realising my cherished dream. We discussed and argued on various aspects and only went ahead with each of our decisions when we all agreed unanimously on all issues," he said.
"From calling it The Food Pavilion to the names of individual levels, the process of selecting each name have been as delicate as selecting the cricket team before a most crucial match," Ganguly said with a smile.
Tendulkar had earlier lent his name to a restaurant -- Sachin's -- in Mumbai.
Jhajharia, who is the Director of the restaurant, said: "All things unique to Ganguly have been smoothly blended to give each of the four restaurants its deserving nomenclature and thus the ambience to carry through."
