Kolkata:NCP supremo and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Sharad Pawar today accused the Dalmiya camp with deliberately postponing the BCCI annual general meeting as they have not been able to drum up the requisite numbers.
Speaking to reporters, the Union Agriculture Minister said the Dalmiya group was getting increasingly panicky and don't have the numbers as a result of which they were delaying the commencement of the meeting.
"They (Dalmiya coterie) are adjourning the meeting every two hours, which clearly indicates the Dalmiya camp was not confident about the numbers," Pawar said.
To a query whether Pawar was contesting, the Maratha strongman said the powers-that-be wouldn't have resorted to delaying tactics if a candidate had to be elected unanimously.
"If a candidate has to get election unopposed, do you think they (powers-that-be) would like to delay these elections," Pawar sarcastically asked.
The Maratha strongman came down heavily on a section of the electronic media forfalsely coming up with reports that he may offer to withdraw his candidature.
"See, I've not made a single statement that I would withdraw my candidature. But these few press people since morning have been coming up with reports that I may withdraw from the race. It's all false and baseless," he quipped.
The Maratha heavyweight said there was no interference by the judiciary. "I don't think there is any interference from the judiciary. Still I fail to understand why the election process is delayed,'' he added.
