London:Star Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who has been out of the national side, recuperating from a nagging shoulder injury, has been signed up by English county Lancashire for the first half of the 2005 season.

The ace offie, who holds the Test record of 532 wickets, had to give the recently-held coveted ICC Champions Trophy a miss because of the injury and would be turning up for the red rose county for a third stint.

The star off-spinner had earlier played for Lancashire in 1999 and 2001.

The champion Sri Lankan bowler will only be available for the first part of the season because of international commitments. The signing of Muralitharan could mean the end of former West Indies captain Carl Hooper's career at Lancashire.
