Bridgetown:Former Australia captain Greg Chappell has emerged as a frontrunner for the job of West Indies coach.

Speculation is rife that the former Aussie legend may take over the coaching reins from former West Indies middle-order batsman Gus Logie.

Logie, who had taken up the job in July 2003, had his contract terminated nine months early by mutual consent.

Regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, Chappell has been coaching South Australia for the past five years. The Aussie was reportedly seen in London during the recent ICC Champions Trophy holding discussions with the concerned authorities.

Although the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) have not sounded out any one in particular, it is understood that they are more keen on having someone from overseas.

It may be mentioned here that the West Indies return to cricketing action in Australia in January when they take feature in a triangular one-day series, also involving Pakistan.
