Bangalore:They may well have not matched the Barmy Army- all right; but yes they did keep their decibel levels high enough to make their presence felt at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here.

A supporting group of forty, spearheaded by former Aussie Test cricketer Mark Waugh called the Australia Supporter Tour (AST) is here to cheer for the visiting team and also probably to ensure their heroes vanquish the so-called Indian frontier after a long hiatus of 35 years.

The cheering group clad in colourful attires, seated next to the media enclosure were a big hit with all and sundry present at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Interestingly, the supporting group, which had tied up with Australia Sports Tour, a Victoria registered company for the trip to India, would also travel to Chennai for the second Test.

Former Aussie quick bowler Merv Hughes will accompany another group, which would be doing the supporting job at Mumbai-the venue of the final Test between India and Australia.

The Merv Hughes-led group was originally scheduled to be with the Australian team at Nagpur for the third Test but problems regarding hotel accommodation queered their pitch.
