London:Discarded Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has signed up for English County Surrey for the 2005 season.

The 29-year-old all-rounder, who has always got the wrong end of the national selectors stick, despite being a huge talent, has agreed to a one-year deal after spending the last three seasons as one of the county's overseas players.

Incidently, Mahmood burst onto the international secene on the tour of South Africa in the early nineties, when he racked up two scorching Test tons against a fearsome South Africa comprising Allan Donald and Co.

As an all-rounder, Azhar would have to shoulder a lot of responsibility due to the retirement of former England International Adam Hollioake.
