Bashar named captain for first Test vs Kiwis

Dhaka:Dashing batsman Habibul Bashar, recuperating from a right thumb injury, was today named the Bangladesh cricket captain for first Test against New Zealand.

Bashar, whose inclusions in the side has been shrouded with uncertainty after he had aggravated his injured thumb during nets session here, has been picked in the 14-member squad.

Rajin Saleh, who led the Tigers at the ICC Champions Trophy in England, in absence of Bashar will be his deputy.

Uncapped batsman Nafis Iqbal earned a national call-up after his impressive performance during the Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team's tour of England in July.

Squad: Habibul Bashar (captain), Rajin Saleh (vice-captain), Khaled Mashud (wicket-keeper), Javed Omar, Mohammad Ashraful, Manjurul Islam, Tapash Baishya, Mushfiqur Rahman, Mohammad Rafique, Tareq Aziz Khan, Nafis Iqbal, Hannan Sarkar, Alok Kapali, Alamgir Kabir.
