London:Former New Zealand opening batsman Craig Spearman has signed a new four-year contract with Gloucestershire. The 32-year-old, who played 17 Tests for New Zealand, was their leading run-getter, in the 2004 Championship, amassing 1,424 runs at an impressive average of almost 57.

The strokeful batsman, who had last played a Test for the Black Caps in 2001, incidentally beat legendary WG Grace's 128-year-old club record with an innings of 341 against Middlesex in June this season.

Spearman, who will be qualified to play for England next year, first joined Gloucestershire on invitation by then coach John Bracewell, who is the current coach of the New Zealand side.
