Gibbs skips India tour; eyes England series

Durban:Giving the forthcoming tour of India a miss following apprehensions that he could being detained by the Indian police over his involvement in the match-fixing scandal three years ago, South African opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs today said he will be ready for the five-Test home series against England beginning this December.

"I didn't want to take the chance to go to India. But I have been working hard and will be available for the series against England," he said. The aggressive opening batsman admitted that he had going through rough patch with the willow of late but was optimistic of getting things right for the home series against England.

"Look, I've been struggling lately with my batting. I am full faith in my abilities. I'm working on my batting. Hopefully, things would be okay by the time the Englishmen arrive here," he added.

The right-handed opener endured a difficult tour of Sri Lanka in August, averaging 13.29 in all forms of the game. However, he did get amongst the runs with a masterly century against West Indies in the ICC Champions Trophy at The Oval.
