Bridgetown:West Indies new cricket coach Bennett King has offered his full support to captain Brian Lara as the Australian prepares to begin his job in the Caribbean.

King said he liked the way Lara carried himself on the field as captain. "I've watched him carry out his captaincy duties on the field and I reckon he's quite intuitive," he said.

He said that Lara should hold on to his captaincy as far as he is concerned.

"There are decisions that will be made later in the piece but at the moment I don't think there is any need for change of leadership," he said.

Describing Lara as a captain who was "instinctive" and "had a lot to offer," King revealed that he had long been a huge fan of the Trinidian.

"To my mind, Lara is probably one of the outstanding batters of the 1990s going into the 21st century. My first priority is to have meetings with the selectors and get to know the players so the camp will be quite intense," he added.
