Bolpur:Unable to bear the defeat of India to Pakistan in the commemorative BCCI platinum jubileeone-day international cricket match, 27-year-old Rabindranath Adhikari ended his life by setting himself on fire at his house at Batikar village in Birbhum district.

While the police said they had registered a case of unnatural death, Rabindranath's father Debabrata claimed today that his son, after hearing India's defeat at the Eden Gardenslast night, entered his room, bolted the doors from inside and did not respond to calls.

"He has returned home after attending a kali idol immersion in the area a few minutes back," Debabrata said.

After sometime, he said, they noticed smoke from door corners and broke it open only to find that Rabindranath was in flames and writhing in pain.

Police said that the man died before being taken to hospital.

According to the family, Rabindranath was a cricket fan, but would suffer from depression whenever Indian team suffered defeat.
