The hosts frittered away early gains -- Gujarat were 139 for five wickets at one stage -- and the visitors' lower order batsmen rose to the occasion to deny Karnataka the edge.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, Gujarat didn't have a good start with openers Akash Christian (six) and Nilesh Modi (17) back in the pavilion when the team had made 60.
Niraj Patel made an entertaining 54 with nine fours. Parmar's patient 150-ball knock contained 12 fours. Parthiv Patel (16) did not stay long.
The visitors fought back in the post-tea session which saw the fall of only one wicket, that of Bhavik Thakkar (23). At stumps, Timil Patel was batting on 35 and Siddarth Trivedi on 39. The duo has already put on 62 runs for the unfinished eighth wicket.
For Karnataka, Vinay Kumar and Dodda Ganesh picked up three wickets each. Spinner Sunil Joshi sent down as many as 30 overs but went wicket-less.
Brief Scores: Gujarat 286 for seven in 90 overs (Parmar 73, Niraj Patel 54, Trivedi batting 39, Timil Patel batting 35, Thakkar 23; Vinay Kumar 3/61, Ganesh 3/82, Stuart Binny1/15).
