Gujarat bowlers leave Karnataka struggling

Bangalore:Replying to Gujarat's first innings total of 330, Karnataka were struggling at 162 for six at close on the second day of the four-day Ranji Tropy Elite Group A encounter at M Chinnaswamy Stadium here today.

Barring opener Barrington Rowland (59) and skipper J Arun Kumar (29), none of the Karnataka batsmen impressed, as Gujarat bowlers did a good job to give their team the upperhand.

Karnataka had a decent start with Rowland and Arun Kumar sharing a 61-run stand for the first wicket, but thereafter they lost wickets quickly. Leg-spinner Timil Patel and medium pacer Lalit Patel picked up two wickets each.

Earlier, resuming at 286 for seven, Gujarat added another 44 runs before being all out in 109 overs.

Tailenders Timil Patel and Siddarth Trivedi hit unbeaten 59 and 43, respectively, to frustrate the hosts' bowling attack. The duo put on 66 runs for the eighth wicket which could turn out to be crucial.

Vinay Kumar was the pick of the Karnataka bowlers, taking five wickets for 83 runs, while Dodda Ganesh claimed 3/92.
