Perth:Western Australian wicketkeeper Ryan Campbell smashed 144 runs from 142 balls to put his side in a strong position at stumps on the second day of their domestic Sheffield Shield cricket match here.

Ryan shared a 184-run partnership with bowler Darren Wates who made 53 as Western Australia finished the day all out for 512 at the Western Australian Cricket Association Ground on Monday.

Campbell's efforts were further reinforced by a solid 95 from Chris Rogers on the opening day of the four-day match.

But Queensland showed they weren't about to give up first innings points easily in the hot Perth conditions and in reply finished at 195 for 2 with captain Jimmy Maher making 76 before being caught by Wates off the bowling of Brad Hogg shortly before stumps.

Together with Clint Perren, who made 41 before dragging a Wates delivery onto his stumps, the pair put on 112 on a perfect batting wicket.

At stumps all-rounders Shane Watson on 33 and Andrew Symonds on 31 seemed settled in and set to lead the Queensland charge on Tuesday.

For Queensland, Joe Dawes was the best of the bowlers claiming 4-99.

In Perth (day two): Western Australia 512 (R. Campbell 144, C. Rogers 95; J. Dawes 4-99, S. Watson 2-82) v Queensland 195 for 2 (J. Maher 76, C. Perren 41; D. Wates 1-37, B. Hogg 1-43).
