Hyderabad:Hosts Hyderabad are sitting pretty after gaining a massive 148 run first innings lead and were 168 for 9 in the second essay at stumps on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite B match against Maharashtra at Gymkhana grounds here today.

Replying to hosts first innings score of 231, Maharashtra buckled under pressure and folded up at 83 avoiding the follow on by just two runs. Hosts ended the day with a lead of 316 runs with one wicket in hand and two days to go.

Debutant F Shahnawaz, speedster N P Singh and Md Ghouse wrecked the Maharashtra batting line up with only S Satbhai providing some resistance by an enterprising 31.

He added 38 runs for the last wicket with A Sanklecha (8) and was solely responsible for bringing hosts to the batting crease again.

Shahnawaz teased the batsmen with his tempting line and visitors fell prey and were four wickets for 29 runs to send back skipper H Kanitker (7) and K Aphale (0).

Ghouse accounted for N Godbole (0) and R Khirid (0) while opening bowler N P Singh ripped through the tail after drawing the first blood by dismissing D Jadhav for 18.

In the second innings, hosts had a shaky start, losing three quick wickets with Sancklecha making best use of the windy conditions.

A T Rayudu stemmed the rot with a refined 23 with the help of three hits to the fence while Anirudh Singh (37), Ibrahim Khaleel (41) and Md Ghouse (32) made good runs before Sancklecha returned with figures of 5 for 46.

Skipper SLV Raju (4) and F Shahnawaz(0) were on the crease at stumps.
