Indian eves team named for Australia series

Chennai:Monica Sumra and Varsha Reiffel, both of Indian Railways, will make their international debut being part of the Indian women's cricket team which would play the visiting Australians in the seven-match one-day series commencing on December 11 in Mysore.

The Women's Cricket Association of India (WCAI) selection committee chaired by Shantha Rangaswamy and comprising Mithu Mukherji, Archana Mishra, Geeta Gaekwad has selected the team for the seven One-dayers, a release by former Indian captain and Secretary of the association Shubhangi Kulkarni said today.

The team: Mamatha Maben (Capt.), Mithali Raj (Vice.Capt), Anju Jain, Anjum Chopra, Jaya Sharma, Hemalata Kala, Jhulan Goswami, Amita Sharma, Arundhati Kirkire, Varsha Raffel, Deepa Kulkarni, Neetu David, Nooshin Al-Khadeer, Monica Sumra.

Kulkarni said the first two matches at Mysore on December 11 and 13 would be sponsored by IT major Infosys Technologies.

''The Indian women cricketers are presently undergoing a preparatory camp at the Infosys ground at Mysore. The venue is hosting an international match for the first time and thepavilion and the ground have excellent faciltiies. The players praised the quality of the ground, wickets and other facilities available at Mysore", she said.

The players also had the privilege and benefit of attending a lecture on 'leadership and team building' by Infosys founder Narayana murthy, she said. The team would be coached by former Indian captain Sudha Shah.
