Kiwis insert Australia into bat in 1st ODI

Melbourne:New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming won the toss and put Australia into bat in the first Chappell-Hadlee Trophy one-day series cricket match at Docklands stadium here.

The stadium's roof was closed and the match will be played under lights.

Australia rested fast bowlers Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie, giving Brett Lee just his third match in over two months.

Batsman Simon Katich was named as 12th man for Sunday's match.

New Zealand, hammered 2-0 in the recent two-Test series against Australia, made Chris Harris 12th man.

This is the first match in the three-match series, with further matches in Sydney on Wednesday and Brisbane on December 10.


Australia - Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting (captain), Damien Martyn, Darren Lehmann, Andrew Symonds, Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, Brad Hogg, Brett Lee, Michael Kasprowicz, Simon Katich (12th man).

New Zealand - Stephen Fleming (captain), Nathan Astle, Mathew Sinclair, Scott Styris, Hamish Marshall, Chris Cairns, Jacob Oram, Brendon McCullum, Daniel Vettori, Kyle Mills, Ian Butler, Chris Harris (12th man).
