New Delhi:The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Rajya Sabha today demanded full protection to the Indian cricket team in the face of a threat from a terrorist outfit in Bangladesh and a Shiv Sena member went a step further in asking the Government to cancel the tour to that country.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, BJP member Maya Singh wanted the Government to come out with a statement on the issue and take the House into confidence on the nature of the threat and on steps being taken to provide security to the team.

She was joined by several BJP and Shiv Sena members in demanding full security cover to the Indian cricket team.

Sanjay Nirupam (Shiv Sena) said Pakistan Intelligence Agency ISI was very active in Bangladesh and the Government cannot take the death threat from Harkat-ul-Jihadi-Islami lightly.

"Government should cancel the cricket tour to Bangladesh to ensure safety and security of players," he said.

Responding to members' concern, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachouri said Government was committed to providing full security to cricket players both inside and outside the country and all steps would be taken in this regard.
