Colombo:Experienced left-handed batsman Russel Arnold has been recalled to the Sri Lanka side for the upcoming tour of New Zealand starting later this month.

The 31-year-old, who has been in and out of the national side, made the cut on the strength of his superb showing in the domestic action.

Tillakaratne Dilshan also get a call-up after being axed for the two Test matches against Pakistan recently. Dashing opening bat Avishka Gunawardene along with middle-order batsman Jehan Mubarak, Thilina Kandamby and spinner Kaushal Lokuarachchi were ignored for the tour.

Star spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has been named in the squad though one is not sure when he will be fit to play.

The champion spinner, who had undergone surgery on his shoulder in August, has resumed bowling and could return for the two-Test series in the New Year, which follows a five-match One-day series beginning on Boxing Day.

Kumar Sangakkara will stand behind the stumps in both forms of the game as veteran Romesh Kaluwitharana had hung up his cricketing boots.
