Wellington:Veteran New Zealand all-rounder Chris Harris underwent surgery on his injured right shoulder and will miss the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka beginning late December.

The left-hander, who has been an integral part of the Kiwi One-day side, sustained a torn rotator cuff while fielding in a One-day game against Australia in Sydney last week.

According to New Zealand cricket board sources, Harris is expected to have four to five weeks in a sling to immobilise the shoulder while it heals.

Harris, who has played 250 One-day internationals, earned plaudits for his bravery after bravely going out to bat in Sydney despite the injury, although it proved to be a fruitless exercise as he got himself yorked by McGrath as the Kiwis came short of the Aussie total by 17 runs.
