Bangalore:A scintillating unbeaten century by Ashutosh Upadhyay helped Modern C C beat strong contenders Cambridge C C by 9 wickets in the ongoing K S C A IV division league at the K T Palace grounds here on Tuesday. Earlier, former India Test bowler and Modern C C captain David Johnson won the toss and elected to field. His bowlers obliged him by reducing Cambridge to 129 for 9 in 37.3 overs.

The last wicket pair for Cambridge added fruitful 63 runs to take them to a respectable 192 all out off 48.4 overs. Abhishek was the top-scored for Cambridge with 40.

Left- arm spinner Md Aleem was the pick of the bowlers finishing with returns of 5 for 40. Leg-spinner Ravi Chandana and medium pacer Tanveer picked up two wickets apiece.

In reply, Modern lost Tanveer, who was castled off the very first ball. Ashutosh walked in and join forces with Nishanth Singh Shekhawat as the pair played sensibly to take the score to 48 for 1 at lunch.

They grew in confidence and went about the task admirably scoring at a fair clip. Ashutosh was the dominant of the two, scoring a cracking unbeaten 108 off just 91 balls with 22 hits to the fence, while the Karnataka State under 15 batsman Nishanth Shekhawat remained unconquered on 63 off 102 balls, studded with 10 fours.
