Ahmedabad:Aided by captain Parthiv Patel's fine half century, hosts Gujarat got the better of Maharashtra by eight wickets in a one-day Ranji trophy one-day match here today.

Put in to bat, Maharashtra led by Dhiraj Jadhav managed only 184 runs for the loss of eight wickets against some disciplined bowling by Gujarat led by Salil Yadav who picked up three wickets.

Opener Jadhav (55) and middle order batsman Ranjit Khirid (41) were the only batsmen who contributed to the Maharashtra's total.

Abhijit Kale managed only 20 runs while those after him, barring Khirid, barely managed to reach double digit scores.

Chasing the modest target, Gujarat openers Parthiv Patel (50) and Akash Christian (30) gave a fine start adding 50 runs.

After Christian was bowled over by Anupam Sanklecha, Patel had another productive stand with dependable Niraj Patel which was also worth nearly 50 runs.

After Patel's departure Kirat Damani (47 not out) took over and played in tandem with Niraj (43 not out) to take Gujarat home with plenty of overs to spare.

Gujarat earned five points, including a bonus for acheiving the target within 40 overs.
