NSW clinch under-19 crown

Sydney:New South Wales clinched the Australian female Under-19 championship title for the record eighth time getting the better off Victoria by 122 runs in the final at the Raby Oval, Sydney on Wednesday.

The hosts owed their total of 227 for seven to New South Wales opener Kate Owen, who held the innings together with a solid 95 off 147 balls.

Victorian vice-captain Rachael Haynes and medium pacer Tammy Norquay were the main wicket-takers for Victoria, snaring three wickets respectively.

Chasing 228 for victory, Victoria were never in the game as they lost wickets at regular intervals to be packed out for a measly 105 off 37.1 overs.

For New South Wales, Katie Shanks was the main wrecker in chief, claiming four wickets, while Lisa Kuschert grabbed three wickets to spearhead New South Wales to victory.

Norquay was named player of the championship, amassing 238 runs at an average of 39.67. She also claimed eight wickets at an average of 11.12 including best figures of 3-16.
