Indore:Uttar Pradesh pipped Vidarbha by a narrow 10-run margin in the Central Zone Ranji Trophy one-day match played at the Daly College ground here today.

UP made 240 in their stipulated 50 overs through valuable knocks by Rohit Prakash (67) and Jyoti Yadav (51) after electing to bat.

In reply, Vidarbha's Alind Nayudu scored 112 but did not get enough support from the other batsmen.

Earlier, UP opener Prakash (67, 4x7) and Praveen Kumar (35) added 76 runs for the opening stand before Praveen was sent back.

Prakash added 52 runs with Suresh Raina (23) for the third wicket before seasoned Jyoti Yadav made 51 (4x4) to ensure a competitive total.

Chasing the target, Vidarbha were off to a poor start when Faiz Fazal was caught by Jyoti Yadav off R P Singh in the third over.

Singh later claimed the wicket of Harbade (14) to give Vidarbha another blow while Praveen Kumar trapped Sameer Khare (3) leg before to put them in trouble.

A 103-run partnership between Alind and Amit Deshpande (34) for the fourth wicket raised hopes of a win but Alind's dismissal in the 49th over spelt doom for the side.

With this win, UP bagged four points.
