Gujarat ease past Saurashtra by 65 runs

Ahmedabad:An all-round performance by Gujarat helped them to beat Saurashtra by 65 runs and bag five points in a West Zone Ranji Trophy one-day match here today.

After some superb batting by Vivek Parikh (81), Niraj Patel (75) and Parthiv Patel (68) helped Gujarat to pile up 308 their bowlers dismissed Saurashtra for 243.

Though Gujarat lost opener Akash Christian (16) cheaply, Parikh gave a superb display of his skills scoring 81 runs which was studded with three sixes and 12 fours.

Niraj Patel also played well scoring 75 runs with one six and two fours. Test discard Parthiv Patel chipped in with a quickfire half century while Kitat Damani contributed 36 runs.

For Saurashtra, Haresh Dabhi took three wickets while Sandip Maniar claimed two.

Chasing the imposing target, Saurashtra were in deep trouble right from the start when they lost openers K Waghela (6) and Altaf Merchant (14).

Though Sitanshu Kotak (60) and Nikhil Rathod (74) made decent scores, the performance of other batsmen were dismal.

For Gujarat, V Parikh, Salil Yadav and Kalpesh Patel all took two wickets each.

Brief scores: Gujarat: 308 for 8 wkts (Vivek Parikh 81, Niraj Patel 75, Parthiv Patel 68 beat Saurashtra 243 for 8 wkts (Sitanshu Kotak 60, Nikhil Rathod 74).
