Tamil Nadu won the toss and elected to bat. Opener Thirush Kamini who top scored with 93 batted excellently to help Tamil Nadu reach a respectable 138 for 6 in the stipulated 40 overs.
The Karnataka lasses fielded brilliantly to frustrate the batsmen and kept up the pressure throughout the Tamil Nadu inning .
Medium pacers Sharmila, Anuradha and Aathmaja did a good job of containing the batsmen. Off spinner Sunitha Vasudevan picked up two for 23 from her 8 overs while the rest of the wickets were shared.
Thirush Kamini, who was dropped off Sharmila when on 16, was the lone warrior for Tamil Nadu . She struck 9 fours in her 141 ball knock of 93 before being clean bowled by off spinner Shilpa Batra.
Karnataka were off to a brilliant start with Karuna Jain and Shipa Batra making the task look easy with some delectable shots. In a moment of indiscretion, Karuna chased a wide delivery and was caught behind.
Before she could assume her seat in the pavilion, she was joined by Deepika Babu and Sindhu Ashok and the score card read an ominous 42 for three. Shilpa and Vanitha started rebuilding the innings and put on a valuable 43 runs before Vanitha was bowled by the lanky off spinner Kruthika.
Shilpa batted patiently and goaded her partners to keep a cool head. Every batsman chipped in with a small contribution and Karnataka ended up winning this crucial game with more than four overs to spare but not before losing 8 wickets. Shilpa was the top scorer with 35 while Karuna made a rapid 20. Anuradha struck the winning hit and remained unbeaten on 12.
BCCI Hon Secretary Mr Nair who watched the game was full of appreciation and promised to support womens cricket.
