World XI call correctly, opt to bat

Christchurch:World XI captain Shane Warne won the toss and elected to bat against New Zealand in the first of three one-day cricket matches organised to raise money for tsunami relief.

Fans have been relishing the prospect of the world's most successful Test bowlers, Australian legspinner Warne and Sri Lankan offspinner Muttiah Muralitharan bowling together for the first time in the series, which New Zealand Cricket hopes will raise more than one million New Zealand dollars (670,000 US) for victims of the Asian tsunami.

The return to the New Zealand team of Jeff Wilson after a 12-year absence while he concentrated on a glittering career for the rugby All Blacks has also been a focus of interest.
