Winning the toss and electing to bat at the Medical College Ground, Karnataka got off to a good start with Karuna Jain and Vanitha raising 65 for the first wicket. Karuna was trapped in front after scoring 27.
With the addition of another 10 runs, Karnatak suffered another setback when Vanitha offered a return catch to Rensy for 29.
Skipper Deepika Babu was joined by Sindhu in the middle. The pair started building the innings intelligently taking singles and twos. They exhibited tremendous understanding between them and ran hard between the wickets.
They strung together 128 runs for the third wicket before Deepika was castled for a well compiled 43. Sindhu went on to score a fine hundred before holing out to Asha in the covers off the persevering medium pacer Rensy.
Sindhu took just 93 balls for her hundred which had just four hits to the boundary and 44 singles.With Sunitha , Shilpa and Sharmila chipping in usefully, Karnataka reached 286 for 5 off the allotted 40 overs., The salient feature of the Karnataka innings of 286 runs was that it contained just nine boundaries.
Kerala was in trouble with Anuradha bowling a good spell to pick up the first two wickets. Shilpa came on with the score reading 54 for three and ran through the Kerala middle order with a superb spell of 7 overs 3 maidens 11 runs and 5 wickets. With Geetha S picking up two wickets Kerala were shot out for a paltry 79 leaving Karnataka victors with a huge margin.
With this victory Karnataka girls have entered the Knock out stage of the National tournament for the fourth year in a row.
