South African Benkenstein joins Durham

London:South Africa international Dale Benkenstein has signed a three-year contract to play for Durham, the English club announced.

Alongside Mike Hussey and Ashley Noffke the Zimbabwe-born 30-year-old is the third overseas player to have joined Durham for the 2005 season.

Benkenstein has represented South Africa in 23 one-day internationals, making his debut against England in 1998, and has scored more than 6,000 first class runs at an average of 41.77.

Durham head coach Martyn Moxon Wednesday said: "Dale's signing adds some valuable experience to the squad. He is a quality performer who will play an important role for us both on and off the field."
