"It is the most tragic event I have ever heard where thousands of people died. I hope and pray that such events will not occur again in our life time", Tendulkar, the guest of honour for the benefit cricket match for Tsunami victims between Aamir Khan XI and Kapil Dev XI, told reporters at the Wankhede Stadium here today.
"I am happy to be part of this noble cause as every human being should come forward and contribute as thousands of people have been affected", he said.
Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev appealed to masses to contribute open heartedly and thanked all the stars who were taking part in the match to raise funds for the Prime Minister's Tsunami Relief Fund.
"It was also heartening to hear that our Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh refused aid from other countries".
"I am delighted to be part of the Airtel Cup for Hope. I complement the organisers for bringing together the cricketers and cinestars for a benefit match which will further contribute in the rehabilitation and relief measures for the Tsunami victims", Kapil Dev said.
Aamir Khan said the "film industry has always extended its support in times when the country has gone through a difficult phase. This match has given the industry another opportunity to come together and raise funds for the human tragedy".
